On Roommates

Okay, here is a good topic where everyone has a opinion. Its alot like discrimination in that there are good roomies, okay roomies, bad roomies, and OH MY GOD Roomies.

Roommates are a part of life these days in our every day struggle to live in the city. Rents go up almost yearly, but our paychecks don't. We have to sacrifice that desire for privacy and share the bills.

With that being said, here are my tips for the roomies.

  • Don't put everything in your name. You will get stuck with something.
  • If you are signing a lease, put all your names on it.
  • Sign a roommate agreement. Its a little know legal document between roommates that sets the parameters for the day when you no longer can be roommates for what ever reason. It can be hard to enforce legally, but it at least gives you a starting point should you have to visit Circuit Court.
  • When you are looking for an apartment, all of you go. That way you don't get into the legalities of an apartment and then have one of you whine and complain about how they weren't consulted on this or that.
