2006 - Back and Forth

January 7, 2006 brought just what we expected. Independence Air flew for the last time. I was devastated. I absolutely loved my job, but I was lucky and had Sean to fall back on. He is one of the greatest guy's a person could have in their life. He helped me get through the loss, which I can only describe as losing an entire family, and move on. I registered with a temporary service and was placed with a company called Ashley Norton out in Sunrise as an Administrative Assistant. It was a fun job to learn although the Office manager and I didn't get along very well. She was always afraid that someone was trying to get one up on her. My job was to take phone calls, process orders, pack and see that they were shipped. I also learned how to do alterations to the product (door hardware) and other things. I got to know and became friends with the International Manager named Judi who was in the office alot of the time. I consider her one of my personal friends even today. I miss coming to work everyday and joking and having fun with her. In May 2006, Sean applied for and took a job with his company in Chicago. We moved to Chicago on May 1 and settled into an apartment right on the lake in Lakeview. I was so glad to be back in Chicago and my company was willing to set me up to work our of my home. It was the best thing in the world to commute across the hall to work. Sean's job didn't turn out to be what it was promised and in August we returned to S. Florida. Upon my return, I assumed the job of Office manager as the company had decided to remove the current manager from that job. I learned why she was always competing for the "look at me" award. While it was a great company to work for, nothing you did was ever right, or good enough. We stayed with friends for a few weeks and then settled into a townhome in Wilton Manors, this time a few blocks from Hamburger Mary's. We were there until the end of the year when we could no longer tolerate our landlord who was not keeping up the property to either our standards or the city codes. We started looking for other accommodations around christmas time.
